Bangor Ladies Cricket Team celebrated their cup success over Carrick Ladies on Sunday 26th May. In front of a large crowd, Carrick won the toss and elected to bat. They were under pressure from the first ball with Saydee Gomes bowling a tight line and length. Saydee took the first wicket and bowled a brilliant spell claiming one wicket for just three runs off her four overs. Brooke Stranaghan opened the bowling with Saydee and was unlucky not to take a wicket returning figures of four overs for thirteen runs. Megan Stranaghan and Kate English were the first change bowlers and continued to bowl tightly with Megan claiming two wickets. The atmosphere on the pitch was electric as Bangor continued to keep the pressure on Carrick. Emma Hutchinson and Emma Rayner finished out the innings with more tight bowling and Carrick were restricted to just 65 for 3 off their twenty overs.

The news of Bangor’s excellent bowling and fielding had spread quickly with members of the men’s First XI and their supporters arriving to watch the Bangor innings. Holly Williams and Saydee Gomes opened the batting. When Megan Stranaghan joined Saydee Gomes at the crease they looked comfortable against the Carrick attack. They both scored runs freely with Saydee making a fluent 16 with some beautiful shots. Megan was also looking like a naturally talented batter moving quickly to twelve runs. Emma Rayner replaced Saydee after she was bowled out and stroked her first ball to the boundary for four runs. However, it was left to Brooke Stranaghan and Sarah Stephens to stay calm and see the team home with four overs to spare.

There were great celebrations as the recently formed Bangor Ladies celebrated their first win. The crowd cheered them off the pitch and it was great to see the ladies and men’s teams celebrating victories together. The ladies team progress to the quarter final of the cup full of confidence. With a mix of youth and experience Bangor Ladies Cricket team has a very bright future ahead of them and are looking forward to many more victories!

S Gomes 4 overs, 1 wicket for 3 runs
M Stranaghan 4 overs, 2 wickets for 11 runs
S Gomes 16 runs
M Stranaghan 12 runs
