After almost a month without a match Bangor III’s traveled to face Ballymena III’s on Sunday where they won the toss and elected to field on an uncovered wicket that showed signs of dampness.
Bangor started well and were sharp in the field taking some sharp catches with Danny Young notably taking three catches and affecting a run out through a direct hit from 20 yards over the course of the innings. Aided by this fielding display Bangor were well on top of the game after 17 overs of the 30 over game with Ballymena on 64 for 7 with Connor Cox and Stephen Cumper returning figures of 6-1-10-2 and 6-1-16-2 respectively.
From this juncture the game took a turn for the worse as the Ballymena 8th and 9th wicket partnerships put on 52 and 47 respectively aided by some wayward bowling to bring the total to 161 off the allotted 30 overs leaving the Bangor tam somewhat befuddled at what had just happened.
The target, whilst a lot higher than at one time expected, should still have been achievable but no one from Bangor team went on to exploit a number of promising starts under reasonably well controlled bowling from Ballymena with the team succumbing to 120 all out in the 28th over just before the rain arrived.
With 5 games remaining in the elongated season the team will be looking to bounce back to see if promotion chances can be reinstated having already secured their future in the existing division.
